FOTR script - ***FINISHED***

UPDATED Fri Jun 20 19:45:04

I'm inspired by Rosie's Princess Bride thread to do the same for FOTR: recreate the script. Same rules, no corrections. In the event that a large portion of dialogue is skipped, you can go back to the previous post and continue from there.

Translated Elvish should be included. Untranslated parts and things like that Ring calling "Aragorn," can be omitted.

There are at least two websites that I'm aware of with the entire script listed. Since this is not a test there is nothing wrong with consulting them, but since it is a game, doing so would be missing the point.

Ready? I'll lead off:

Galadriel (voice): The world has changed. I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, and none still live who remember.

It began with the forging of the Great Rings of Power. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all races. Seven for the Dwarf-lords, great miners and craftsman of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else, crave power.

Within these rings was the power and will to govern each race. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another ring was made. In the Land of Mordor, in the Fires of Mount Doom, a master ring was forged, in secret, by the Dark Lord Sauron. And into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. One ring to rule them all.

One by one the free lands of Middle-earth fell to the power of the Ring.

But there were some who resisted: A Last Alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor. And on the slopes of Mount Doom, they fought for the freedom of Middle-Earth.

Victory was near, but the power of the Ring could not be undone.

It was in this hour, when all hope had faded, that Isildur, the son of the king, took up his father's sword.

Sauron, enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, had been defeated.

The Ring passed to Isildur, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever. But the hearts of Men are easily corrupted, and the ring of power has a will of its own.

and some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. For two and a half thousand years the Ring passed out of all knowledge.

Until by chance it esnared a new bearer. It came to the creature Gollum who took it deep into the Misty Mountains, where for 500 years it poisoned his mind.

And in the gloom of Gollum's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back in the forest of the world. Rumour grew of a shadow in the East, whispers of a nameless fear. And the Ring of power perceived its time had now come.

It abandoned Gollum. But something happened then, that the Ring did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable.

I hadn't considered which version to use - it's been months since I've seen the EE, but this isn't about me, and I'm sure some people will be able to keep it going. I'll take a shot...

Bilbo: Where to begin? Ah, yes, concerning hobbits!

Bilbo writing:-

Hobbits have been living and farming in the 4 farthings of the shire for many hundreds of years, quite content to ignre and be ignored by the world of the big folk. Middle Earth after all being full of strange creatures beyond count, Hobbits must seem of little importance. Being neither renowned as great warriors, nor counted among the very wise.

Biblo laughs to himself and shouts “Frodo, someone at the door” then returns to writing

In fact it has been remarked by some that Hobbit’s only real passion is for food, a rather unfair observation as we have also developed a keen interest in the brewing of ales and the smoking of pipeweed. But where our hearts really reside is in peace and quiet and good tilled earth. for all Hobbits share a love of things that grow. And yes no doublt to others our ways seem quaint but today of all days it is brought home to me, it is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life.

Knock on the door…. “hmmmm Frodo! the door”

Another knock “sticklebacks! where is that boy?”

Cut to Frodo sitting against a tree reading a book, sound in the background of Gandalf singing ….”down to the door where it began”

*cue happy Shire music*

*Frodo is sitting under a tree, reading a book of some sort*

*Gandalf appears, half-singing, half-mumbling*

Gandalf The Road goes ever on and on / Down from the door where it began / Now far ahead the road has gone / And I must follow it if I can.

*Frodo hears Gandalf's singing, and he runs over to the Road*

Gandalf *repeats his song*

*Frodo approaches Gandalf, folding his arms across his chest*

Frodo You're late.

Gandalf A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins; nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

*they stare at each other, and then laugh. Frodo leaps towards the wagon*

Frodo It's wonderful to see you, Gandalf!

*they hug*

Gandalf You didn't think I'd miss your Uncle Bilbo's birthday, did you?

*they ride off, approaching Hobbiton*

Frodo What news of the outside world? Tell me everything!

Gandalf Everything? You're far too eager and curious for a Hobbit. Most unnatural... Well, what can I tell you? Lfe in the wide world goes on, much as it has this past age. Full its own comings and goings, scarcely aware of the existence of Hobbits, for which I am very thankful.

*they ride through the market place*

*they pass the Party Field*

Gandalf Mmm... the long-expected party... so how is that old rascal? I hear it's going to be a party of special magnificence.

Bilbo: Come in, Come in! Can I get you something to drink? Some tea? I've got a bottle of the old vinyard, laid down by my father. 1420, very good year, nearly as old as I am.

*Bilbo laughs*

Bilbo *running down a corridor and speaking* It was laid down by my father. What say we open one, eh?

Gandalf Just tea, thank you. *knocks into the candelabra, and then runs into one of the rafters* Ohhh...!

Bilbo *in the background* I was expecting you sometime next week. Not that it matters, you come and go as you please. You caught me a bit unprepared, I'm afraid... only got some cold chicken and pickle... there's some cheese... I can make you some eggs if you like - Gandalf?

Gandalf Just tea, thank you.

Bilbo Oh, right. *speaks with his mouth full of some food* You don't mind if I eat, do you?

Gandalf No, no, not at all.

Lobelia *outside, knocking on the door* Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins!

Bilbo *gets tense* I'm not at home! *knocking ceases, he moves towards the hearth* I've got to get away from these confounded relatives, hanging on the bell all day - never giving me a moment's peace... I want to see mountains again, mountains, Gandalf! And then find somewhere quiet where I can finish my book... Oh, tea!

*Bilbo takes the tea from over the hearth-fire*

Gandalf So you mean to go on with your plans, then?

Bilbo Yes, yes, it's all ready; all the arrangements are made. *he begins to pour the tea when Gandalf removes the lid*

Bilbo Oh thank you.

Gandalf *stealing a sidelong glance* Frodo suspects something.

Bilbo Of course he does! He's a Baggins! Not some block-headed Bracegirdle from Hardbottle.

Gandalf *looking at him, hard* You will tell him, won't you.

Bilbo *hastily* Yes, yes.

Gandalf He's very fond of you.

Bilbo: I know. He'd probably come with me if I asked him. But in his heart, Frodo's still in love with the Shire: the fields, the woods, little streams.

I'm old, Gandalf. I know I don't look it, but I'm beginning to feel it in my heart. I feel thin...stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread. I need a holiday, a very long holiday, and I don't expect I shall return. In fact, I mean not to.

*Later, sitting and smoking*

Bilbo: Old Toby, the finest weed in the Southfarthing. Gandalf, my old friend, this will be a night to remember!

That was very impressive, Lady - I could not keep that part straight in my head!

*the Party is very successful - random shots of Hobbits frolicking and eating*

Frodo Go on, Sam; ask Rosie for a dance!

Sam *looks at Rosie, who's tromping about, or "dancing," on the Party Field* Uhh, I think I'll just have another ale."

Frodo Oh no you don't! Go on! *pushes Sam towards Rosie; Rosie swings Sam into the ring dance*

*a small cluster of children are seated about Bilbo*

Bilbo So I was at the mercy of three monstrous trolls... and they were all arguing amongst themselves - about how they were going to cook us. To be turned on a spit, to sit on us one by one - squash us, into jelly!

*a girl gasps*

Bilbo And they spent so much time arguing that the sun's first light crept over the trees - poof!

*everyone gasps*

Bilbo And turned them all to stone!

*Gandalf, laughing, takes some fireworks from his wagon. Merry and Pippin appear*

Pippin Quick!

*Merry boosts Pippin into the wagon; Pippin rummages about the fireworks and shows Merry a cracker*

Merry No, no; big one, big one!

*Pippin shows Merry a large dragon-shaped rocket; Merry nods and they go under a tent*

Old Proudfoot: Proudfeet!

Bilbo: Today is my one hundred and eleventh birthday! Unfortunately, eleventy one years is far too short a time to spend among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like to, and I know half of you half as well as you deserve.

I, uh, have things to do.

Gandalf I suppose you think that was terribly clever.

Bilbo *starts in surprise* Oh, come on, Gandalf; did you see their faces *laughs*

Gandalf *sternly* There are many magic Rings in this world, Bilbo Baggins; and none of them should be used lightly!

Bilbo Yes, yes. It's in an envelope, on the mantelpiece. No... wait... it's here - in my pocket. Well, isn't that odd, now. Yet, after all, why not. Why shouldn't I keep it?

Gandalf I think you should leave the Ring behind. Is that so hard?

Bilbo Well, no... yes. Now that it comes to it, I don't feel like parting with it, it's mine, I found it! It came to me!

Gandalf *raising an eyebrow* There's no need to get angry.

Bilbo *getting a bit snippy* Well if I'm angry, it's your fault! *eyes the Ring lusfully* It's mine... My own... my... preciousss...

Gandalf: No, Frodo, the spirit of Sauron endured. His life force is bound to it and the ring survived. Sauron has returned. His orcs have multiplied, his fortress, the Barad-Dur, has been rebuilt, in the Land of Mordor.

Sauron needs only this ring to cover the lands with a second darkness. He is seeking it, all his thought is bent upon it. The ring yearns, above all else, to return to the hand of its master. They are one, the Ring and the Dark Lord. He must never find it.

Gandalf: there was one other who knew that Bilbo had the ring. I searched everywhere for the creature Gollum, but the enemy found him first. I don't know how long they tortured him, but amid the endless screams they would have discerned two words...

*cuts to Barad-Dur*

Gollum (being tortured): Shire! Baggins!

*Bag End*

Frodo: Shire...Baggins! But that would lead them here!

Frodo: Here, take it Gandalf.

Gandalf: No, I cannot.

Frodo: Take it!

Gandalf: No!

Frodo: I'm giving it to you!

Gandalf: Do not tempt me Frodo! I dare not take it. Understand that I would take this ring out of a desire to do good. But through me it would wield a power to terrible to imagine.

Gandalf: NO - no it can't.

Frodo: What must I do?

Gandalf: You must leave and leave quickly.

Frodo: Where? Where do I go?

Gandalf: Get out of the Shire. Make for the village of Bree.

Frodo: Bree... What about you?

Gandalf: I'll be waiting for you, at the inn of the Prancing Pony.

Frodo: I can cut across country easily enough.

Gandalf: You can learn all there is to know about hobbits and still they surprise you. (They hear a noise) Get down Frodo. (Gandalf stabs outside the windows with his staff and hauls up Sam) Samwise Gamgee, have you been eavesdropping?

Sam: I ain't been dropping no eaves sir, honest.

Gandalf: What did you hear?

Sam: Nothing important. That is, I heard a great deal about a ring of power and something about the end of the world, but that's all. Don't hurt me, don't turn me into anything unnatural.

Gandalf: No? I have a better use for you.

Gandalf: Never put it on, for the agents of the Dark Lord will be drawn to it's power.

Always remember Frodo, the Ring is trying to get back to it's master, it wants to be found.

Sam: This is it.

Frodo: This is what?

Sam: If I take one more step, it'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been.

Frodo: Come on Sam. Remember what Bilbo used to say.

It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.

Saruman: You are sure of this?

Gandalf: Beyond any doubt.

Saruman: So the ring of power has been found.

Gandalf: All these long years, it was in the Shire under my very nose.

Saruman: And yet you did not have the wit to see it. Your love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind.

Gandalf: But we still have time, time enough to counter Sauron,
if we move quickly.

Saruman: Time? What time do you think we have? Sauron has regained much of his former strength. He cannot yet take physical form, but his spirit has lost none of its potency. Concealed within his fortress, the Lord of Mordor sees all ...

His gaze pierces clouds, shadow, earth, and flesh.

You know of what I speak, Gandalf.
A great eye lidless, wreathed in flame.

Gandalf: The Eye of Sauron.

Saruman: He is gathering all evil to him. Very soon he will have summoned an army great enough to launch an assault on Middle-Earth.

Gandalf: You know this? How?

Saruman: I have seen it.

Gandalf: A palantea is a dangerous tool Saruman.

Saruman: Why? Why should we fear to use them?

Gandalf: They are not all accounted for, the lost seeing-stones.
We do not know who else may be watching.

Saruman: The hour is later than you think. Sauron's forces are already moving, the nine have left Minas Morgul.

Gandalf: The Nine?!

Saruman: They crossed the River Isen on midsummer's eve disguised as riders in black.

Gandalf: They've reached the Shire!

Saruman: They will find the Ring and kill the one who carries it.

Gandalf: Frodo!

Saruman: You did not seriously think that a hobbit could contend with the will of Sauron. There are none who can. Against the power of Mordor there can be no victory. We must join with him, Gandalf. We must join with Sauron. It would be wise, my friend.

Gandalf: Tell me, friend, when did Saruman the Wise abandon reason for madness!

Saruman: ARGGGGGGGH!

(stomp, stomp, swoosh, stomp)

Saruman: I gave you the chance of aiding me willingly, but you have elected the way of PAIN!

*The Hobbits walk towards Bree. They arrive at the gate. They knock? Gatekeeper opens slot in gate.*
Gatekeeper: Hobbits. Four Hobbits! What business brings you to Bree?
Frodo: We're heading for the Prancing Pony! Our business is our own!
Gatekeeper: Alright, young sirs, alright, I meant no offense. It's my job to ask questions after nightfall. There's talk of strange folk abroad. Can't be too careful.
*The four Hobbits make their way to the Pony. They walk in, relieved. They walk to the counter*
Butterbur: Ah! Good evening, little masters, if you're looking for accomodations, we've got some nice cozy Hobbit-size rooms available, Mr...
Frodo: Underhill. My name's Underhill.
Butterbur: Underhill...
Frodo: We're friends of Gandalf the Grey. Can you tell him we've arrived?
Butterbur: Gandalf...Gandalf...Oh, yes, I remember! Elderly chap! Big grey beard! Pointy hat! I've not seen him for six months.
*Hobbits hustle.*
Sam: What do we do now?
*Hobbits sit at table with drinks.*
Frodo: Sam, he'll be here. He'll come.
*Merry comes back with a drink.*
Pippin: What's that?
Merry: This, my friend, is a pint.
Pippin: It comes in pints? I'm getting one! *Leaves table.*
Sam: You've had a whole half already!
Sam: That man's done nothing but stare at you, since you've arrived.
Frodo *To Butterbur.*: That man in the corner, who is he?
Butterbur: He's one of them rangers. Dangerous folk they are wandering the wild. What his right name is I never heard, but 'round here he's known as "Strider".
Frodo: Strider
*Strange shot goes by, as ring tempts Frodo by saying his name.*
Ring: Baggins! Baggins!
Pippin: Baggins! Sure I know a Baggins! He's over there! Frodo Baggins! He's my second cousin. Once removed on his mother's side.
*Pippin continues rambling as Frodo runs up, panicked.*
Frodo: Pippin!
Pippin: Steady on, there, Frodo!
*Frodo falls to the floor. The Ring flies up. Strider sits up. Frodo tries to catch it. It lands on his finger. He disappears and Pippin looks down in sudden realization of what he has caused. The crowd is shocked. Nazgul feel the Ring and ride to Bree. Frodo is in the Shadow world. He shoots in the air to Barud-dur and sees the Eye.*
Sauron: You cannot hide. I see everywhere! There is no life in the void, only death.
*Frodo removes the Ring and comes back to the real world. A hand grabs his shoulder and pushes him against the wall.*
Strider: You draw far to much attention to yourself, Mr. Underhill!
*He hustles him upstairs and throws him to the floor.*
Frodo: What do you want?
*Strider extinguishes light.*
Strider: A little more caution from you, perhaps, that is no trinket you carry.
Frodo: I carry nothing.
Strider: Indeed. I can avoid being seen if I wish, but to disappear entirely...*Throws back hood.* That is a rare gift.
Frodo: Who are you?
Strider: Are you frightened?
Frodo: Yes.
Strider: Not nearly frightened enough! I know what h(a)unts you.
*He approaches Frodo. Door is thrown open. Strider whips out his sword. It turns out to be Sam, Merry, and Pippin. who have his fists, a candlestick, and a stool, respectively.*
Sam: Let him go! Or I'll have you, Longshanks!
Strider: Yku have a stout heart, little Hobbit, but that will not save you, you can no longer wait for your wizard (friend), Frodo. They are coming.
*Flash back to gate. Gatekeeper hears a knock and opens the slot. The Nazgul burst in, trampling the gate and Gatekeeper. They make their way to the Pony, walk past Butterbur, to a room where the Hobbits appear to sleeping. The Nazgul thrust down on their beds with their blades. They knock down the beds. They find feathers in the beds. Hobbits and Strider are in another inn across the road.*
Frodo: What are they?
Strider: They were once men. Great Kings of Men. Then Sauron the Deceiver gave to them Nine rings of power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question and one by one (they) have fallen into darkness and now they are slaves to his will. They are the Nazgul. Ringwraiths. Neither living nor dead, at all times they feel the presence of the Ring. Drawn to the Power of the One. They will never stop hunting you!

Following day in the woods

Frodo: Where are you taking us?
Strider: Into the wild.
Merry: to Frodo- How do we know this Strider is a friend of Gandalf?
Frodo: We have no choice but to trust him.
Sam: But where is he leading us?
Strider: To Rivendell Master Gamgee, The House of Elrond.
Sam: Did you hear that? Rivendell! We're going to see the elves!

After a while the Hobbits pause. Strider looks back at them

Strider: Gentlemen, we do not stop till nightfall.
Pippin: What about breakfast?
Strider: We already had it.
Pippin: We've had one yes. What about second breakfast?

Strider walks away

Merry: Don't think he knows about second breakfast Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them doesn't he?
Merry: I wouldn't count on it.

From over bush, Strider tosses an apple and Merry catches it. He hands it to
Pippin and pats him on the shoulder. Another apple flies through the air hitting Pippin in the head. He looks up bewildered

Merry: impatiently- Pippin!

*Goes back to Orthanc.*
Saruman: The power of Isengard is at your command, Sauron, Lord of the Earth.

*Arwen rides to the fords of Bruinen, hotly pursued by the Nazgul. She gallops across the river. The Wraiths stop at the bank. They let out a screech.*
Witch King: Give up the Halfling, she-elf!
Arwen: If you want him, come and claim him!
*The Ringwraiths ride into the river. Arwen says an incantion to the river and it comes down on them, apparently drowning them. Arwen dismounts with Frodo.*
Arwen: Frodo, no! Frodo, don't give in! Not now! What grace has given me, let it pass to him, spare him.
Elrond: Here my voice, come back to the light.
*Frodo wakes up.*
Frodo: Where am I?
Gandalf: You are in the house of Elrond. At 10 o'clock in the morning, on October the 24th if you want to know.
Frodo: Gandalf!
Gandalf: Yes, I'm here and you're lucky to be here, too. A few more hours and you would've been beyond our aid, but you have some strength in you, my dear Hobbit.
Frodo: What happened, Gandalf? Why didn't you meet us?
Gandalf: (Oh) I'm very/so sorry Frodo. I was delayed.
*Flash back to Orthanc, with Gandalf and Saruman.*
Saruman: A friendship with Saruman is not lightly thrown aside. Ah!
*He thrusts Gandalf to the brink of the towertop.*
Saruman: It is over. Embrace the power of the Ring, or embrace your own destruction!
*He flips Gandalf on his front.*
Gandalf: There is only one Lord of the Ring. Only one who can bend it to his will and he does not share power...
*He jumps onto the back of an eagle, that spirits him away from Orthanc.*
Saruman: So, you have chosen death.
*Gwaihir spirits Gandalf over the mountains.*
Frodo: Gandalf, what is it?
Gandalf: Nothing.
*Sam rushes in.*
Sam: Frodo!
Frodo: Sam!
Sam: Bless you! You're awake!
Gandalf: Sam has hardly left your side.
Sam: We were that/right worried about you, weren't/won't we Mr. Gandalf?
Gandalf: By the skills of Lord Elrond, you are beginning to mend.
Elrond: Welcome to Rivendell, Frodo Baggins!
*Frodo walks out and he and Sam reunite with Merry and Pippin. They see an elderly Hobbit on a stool.*
Frodo: Bilbo!
Bilbo: Hello, Frodo, my lad!
Frodo: Bilbo!
Bilbo: Oh!
*Frodo looks at a book.*
Frodo: There and Back Again! A Hobbit's Tale by Bilbo Baggins! It's magnificent!
Bilbo: I meant to go back. Wander the paths of Mirkwood, visit Lake Town, see the Lonely Mountain again, but age it seems has finally caught up with me.
*Frodo turns to a map of the Shire.*
Frodo: I miss the Shire. I often spent my childhood imagining I was somewhere else, off with you on one of your adventures. My own adventure turned out to be quite different. I'm not like you, Bilbo.
Bilbo: My dear boy.
*Frodo walks over to Sam.*
Frodo: Packed already.
Sam: No harm in being prepared.
Frodo: I thought you wanted to see the Elves, Sam.
Sam: I do.
Frodo: More than anything.
Sam: I did! It's just that, we did what Gandalf wanted. Didn't we? We got the Ring this far to Rivendell, and I figured we'd off soon, off home.
Frodo: You're right, Sam. We did do what we set out to do. The Ring will be safe in Rivendell.
Elrond: His strength returns.
Gandalf: His wound will never fully heal. He will carry it the rest of his life.
Elrond: Yet to have so far, still bearing the Ring, the Hobbit has shown extraordinary resiliance to it's evil.
Gandalf: It is a burden he should never have been met to bear. We can ask no more of Frodo.
Elrond: Gandalf, the enemy is moving. Sauron's forces are massing in the East. His Eye is fixed on Rivendell and Saruman you tell me has betrayed us. Our list of allies grows thinner. Gandalf, the Ring cannot stay here.
*Boromir, Legolas, and Gimli arrive at Rivendell.*
Elrond: This peril now belongs to all of Middle Earth. They must decide now, how to deal with it. The time of the Elves is over. My people are leaving these shores. Who will you look, when we leave? The Dwarves? They hide in their mountains, seeking riches. they care nothing for the troubles of others.
Gandalf: It is in Men, that we must place our hope.
Elrond: Men? Men are weak. The race of men is failing. The blood of Numenor is all but spent. It's pride and dignity forgotten. It is because of men the Ring survives. I was there, Gandalf. I was there 3,000 years ago, when Isildur took the Ring. I was there the day the strength of men failed.
*Flash to Mount Doom.*
Elrond: Isildur, hurry. Follow me! I led Isildur into the heart of Mount Doom, where the Ring was forged the one place it could be destroyed. Cast it into the fire! Destroy it!
Isildur: No!
Elrond: Isildur! It should've ended that day, but evil was allowed to endure. There is no strength left in the world of men. They are scattered, and divided, and leaderless.

(dang, you did a lot)

Gandalf There is one who could unite them. One who could reclaim the throne of Gondor.

Elrond He turned from that path long ago. He has chosen exile.

*the Hall of Fire, or something like that. Aragorn is sitting in the shadows, reading a book. Boromir walks in and beholds the wall mural, which depicts Isildur cutting the Ring from Sauron's hand. He then walks to a statue, which holds a tray bearing the shards of Narsil*

Boromir The shards of Narsil. The blade that cut the Ring from Sauron's hand! *he fingers the broken blade, and cuts his finger* Still sharp. *he suddenly notices Aragorn* But no more than a broken heirloom. *he puts the sword back on the tray, but as he walks away, the hilt falls with a clatter to the ground*

*Aragorn stands up and replaces the sword hilt. He stands before the statue when Arwen enters*

Arwen Why do you fear the past? You are Isildur's heir, not Isildur himself. You are not bound to his fate.

Aragorn The same blood flows in my veins. The same weakness.

Arwen Your time will come. You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it. A si i-dhúath ú-othor. Ú or le a ú or nin. (The shadow does not sway yet, not over you, not over me.)

*they stand face-to-face in a conveniently romantic spot*

Arwen Renich i lú i erui govannem? (Do you remember when first we met?)

Aragorn Nauthannen i ned ôl renniannen. (I thought I strayed into a dream)

Arwen Gwenwin in enninath. Ú-'arnech in naeth i si celich. Renech i beth i pennen? (Many long years have passed. You did not wear the troubles you now carry. Do you remember what I told you?)

Aragorn You said you'd bind yourself to me, forsaking the immortal life of your people.

Arwen And to that I hold. I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all the Ages of this world alone. *she opens his hand and places the Evenstar jewel into his palm* I choose a mortal life. *enhancing the breathy voice factor*

Aragorn *looking at her in shock* You cannot give me this.

Arwen It is mine to give to whom I will... like my heart.

*smoochies*

You are a daughter of kings. A shieldmaiden of Rohan.

*Goes to Council of Elrond.*
Elrond: Strangers from distant lands, friends of old, you have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle Earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to the fate of this one doom. Bring forth the Ring, Frodo.
*Frodo puts the Ring on a pedestal.*
Boromir: So it is true. It is a gift. A gift to the foes of Mordor. Why not use this Ring? Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor, kept the forces of Mordor at bay by the blood of our people, while your lands kept safe. Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him!
Strider: You cannot wield it! None of us can! The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master!
Boromir: And what would a ranger know of this matter?
Legolas: This is no mere ranger! He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn! You owe him your alliegiance!
Boromir: Aragorn! Then this is Isildur's heir!
Legolas: And heir to the Throne of Gondor!
Aragorn: Havo dad, Legolas! *Sit down, Legolas.*
Boromir: Gondor has no king! Gondor needs no king!
Gandalf: Aragorn is right. We/You cannot use it.
Elrond: You/We have only choice: The Ring must be destroyed!

Gimli:What are we waiting for!! *Bang!!* *whisper from the ring*
Elrond:This ring, Gimli son of Gloin, cannot be destroyed by any craft that we here posess. The ring must be taken far into Mordor and cast back into the firy chasm from whence it came. One of you must do this.

Gimli What are we waiting for? *brings his axe down upon the Ring, but the axe breaks and he is thrown to the ground*

Elrond The Ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli son of Glóin, by any craft that we here possess. The Ring was made in the fires of Mt. Doom. Only there can it be unmade. It must be taken deep into Mordor, and cast back into the fier chasm from whence it came.

*the Ring speaks in the Black Language*

Elrond One of you must do this.

*brief silence*

Boromir One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. And the great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust. The very air is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly.

Legolas Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has sadi? The Ring must be destroyed!

Gimli And I suppose you think you're the one who can do it?!

Boromir And if we fail, what then? What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?!

Gimli I will be dead before I see the Ring in the hands of an Elf!

*the Elves stand up in defence; the Dwarves rise from their seats in defence of the Elves' defence; then everyone is out of their chairs and bickering, except for Frodo, who is staring as if in a trance at the Ring*

Gimli *amid the babel of voices* Never trust an Elf!

the Ring Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul! (One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them)

Frodo *standing* I will take it! I will take it! *everyone shuts up* I will take the Ring to Mordor... *looks about uneasily *though I do not know the way.

Gandalf *closes his eyes as if in pain, but then walks to Frodo* I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, as long as it is yours to bear.

Aragorn *joining them, walking in long strides* If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword.

*Gandalf winks at Elrond*

Legolas You have my bow. *meeting them*

Gimli *not wanting to be outdone* And my axe!

Boromir *approaching the group slowly* You carry the fates of us all, little one. If this is indeed the will of the Council, then Gondor will see it done.

Sam *behind a bush* Hey! *runs up from behind and stands next to Frodo* Mr. Frodo's not going anywhere without me.

Elrond No, it is hardly possible to separate you, even when he is summoned to a secret Council and you are not.

Merry and Pippin *standing behind two pillars, they emerge and make room for themselves in the group. Elrond seems aghast and lost* Oi! We're comin', too! You'll have to send us home tied up in a sack to stop us.

Pippin Anyway, you'll need people of intelligence on this sword of mission... quest... thing...

Merry *whispering* Well, that rules you out, Pip.

*Pippin gives him a puzzled look*

Elrond *finally caught up in what's happened, as the Fellowship theme music swells* Nine companions... So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring!

Pippin Great! So, where're we going?

You are a daughter of kings. A shieldmaiden of Rohan.

*Goes back to Bilbo's room.*
Bilbo: My old sword, Sting, here take it, take it.
Frodo It's so light.
Bilbo: Yes, yes, made by the Elves, you know. The blade glows blue when orcs are close. Mithril, as light as a feather and hard as dragon's skin. Let me see you put it on.
*As Frodo unbuttons his shirt, Bilbo sees the Ring.*
Bilbo: My old Ring. I should very much like to hold it again.
*Frodo buttons up his shirt and Bilbo's face turns ferocious.*
Bilbo: Ah! Oh! I'm sorry I brought this upon you, my boy. I am sorry that you must carry this burden. I'm sorry for everything. *Cries as Frodo lays a hand on his shoulder.*
*The Fellowship set out from Rivendell, over field, hillock, mound, and mountain, led by Gandalf the Grey, followed by Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, the Hobbits, Frodo, Merry, Pippin, and Sam, Bill the Pony, and the Men, Boromir and Aragorn.*
Gandalf: We must hold this course west of the the Misty Mountains for four days, if our luck holds the Gap of Rohan will still take us. from there, our road turns east to Mordor.
*Boromir is teaching sword-drill with Merry and Pippin.*
Boromir: 2-1-5.
Aragorn: Move your feet.
Pippin: Oh, that foot, Pippin, thanks.
Boromir: 2-1-5.
Gimli: Anyone was asking my opinion, which I not they're not. I'd say we were taking the long round. Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin, Balin would give us a royal welcome.
Gandalf: No, Gimli, I would not take the road through Moria, unless I had no other choice.
*Boromir still doing sword-drill with Merry and Pippin.*
Boromir: 2-1-5.
*He slices Pippin, despite his apology, they fight back tackling Boromir with "Get him!" "For the Shire!" and "For Pippin!"*

Pippin Hold him down, hold him down, Merry!

Sam *looking at an approaching dark band in the sky* What's that?

Gimli Nothing, just a wisp of cloud.

Boromir *stops struggling with the Hobbits* It's moving fast... against the wind.

Legolas Crebain from Dunland!

Aragorn HIDE!

*the Fellowship immediately prepares to hide*

Aragorn Frodo! Hurry, take cover!

*Sam puts out the fire and hides the pan of sausages; the others hide between some rocks and shrubbery. The Crebain search the area thoroughly and then fly off*

Gandalf *looking ticked* Spies of Saruman! The passage south is being watched. We must take the pass of Caradhras!

*Frodo stumbles in the snow, coming up without the Ring. Bormoir picks it up, marvelling at it.*

Aragorn: Boromir!

Boromir: It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much over something so little...such a small thing.

Aragorn: Bormir! Give the ring to Frodo!

Boromir: As you wish, I care not.

*Saruman in his tower*

Saruman: So, Gandalf, you try to lead them over Caradhras. And if that fails, where then will you go? If the mountain defeats you, will you risk the more dangerous road?

*Fellowship in the snow*

Legolas: There is a foul voice on the air.

Gandalf: It's Saruman!

Aragonr: He's trying to bring down the mountain! We must turn back!

Gandalf: No!

*Saruman, on Orthanc, chanting. More snow falls on the Fellowship*

Boromir: We must get off the mountain, make for the Gap of Rohan, or take the west road to my city...

Aragorn: No, the Gap of Rohan takes us too close to Isengard.

Gimli: If we cannot go over the mountain, let us go under it! We could go through the Mines of Moria.

*in Orthanc*

Saruman: Moria. You fear to go into those mines. The Dwarves delved to greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-Dum: Shadow and Flame!

Gandalf: Let the Ringbearer decide. Frodo?

Frodo: We will go through the mines.

Gandalf: So be it.

*They approach Moria.*
Gimli: The Walls of Moria.
*They enter the underground. Gandalf finds the door.*
Gandalf: Mirrors only starlight and moonlight. It reads: "The Doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak, 'Friend' and enter."
Merry: What do you suppose that means?
Gandalf: Well, it's quite simple, if you are a friend, you speak the password and the doors will open.
*Gandalf says a spell, but the door remains closed. He presses against the door.*
Gandalf: I once knew every spell in all the tongues of Elves, and Men, and Dwarves.
*Gandalf is still saying spells vainly trying to get the door open as Aragorn unties Bill.*
Aragorn: The Mines are no place for a Pony, even one as brave as Bill.
Sam: Bye-bye, Bill.
*Aragorn releases him.*
Aragorn: Don't worry, Sam. He'll find his way home.
*Merry throws a rock into the water. Pippin is about to do so, when Aragorn grabs his arm.*
Aragorn: Do not disturb the water.
Gandalf: Oh, it is useless.
*Takes off hat and sits by Frodo.*
Frodo: It's a riddle. Speak, "Friend" and enter. What's the Elvish word for friend?
Gandalf: Mellon!
*The doors open, Gandalf chuckles, and the Fellowship walk in, illuminated by Gandalf's staff.*
Gimli: Soon, Master Elf, you will enjoy the fabled hospiltality of the DWARVES! Roaring fires, malt beer, red meat off the bone. This, my friend, is the home of my cousin, Balin, and they call it a mine! A mine!
Boromir: This is no mine. It's a tomb.
*Several Dwarf skeletons are reveled, with arrows protruding from them. Gimli runs over to them.*
Gimli: No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
*Legolas pulls out an arrow.*
Legolas: Goblins!
*Aragorn and Boromir their swords as Legolas affixes an arrow to his bow.*
Boromir: We make for the Gap of Rohan. We should never have come here. Now, get out here. Get out!
*A tentacle grabs Frodo.*

*the tentacle pulls Frodo towards the water*

Merry Frodo!

Pippin Frodo! Help!

Frodo Strider! Help!

Sam Get off of him!

Frodo Aragorn!

*the hobbits free Frodo from the tentacle, but as they pull him towards the Mine, many more tentacls emerge from the water. One grabs Frodo by the ankle and swings him high into the air*

Merry Frodo!

Frodo Strider!

*Legolas shoots the tentacles. Boromir and Aragorn wade into the pool and cut off tentacles as they go. Aragorn slashes the tentacle that holds Frodo, and Boromir catches Frodo*

Gandalf Into the mines!

Aragorn Run!

*the creature pulls itself out of the water and tears the doors down into rubble, blocking any escape and the light. The Fellowship shuffles around in the dark*

Gandalf We now have but one choice. *he puts a lighted stone on the top of his staff* We must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard. There are older and fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world. Quietly now. It is a four-day journey to the other side. Let us hope that our presence may go unnoticed.

*They walk through the mines for some time. Pippin slips on a stair.*
Merry: Pippin!
*Gandalf reaches a junction with 3 doors.*
Gandalf: I have no memory of this place.
*They sit there, like sheep without a shepherd.*
Pippin: Merry.
Merry: What?
Pippin: I'm hungry.
*Frodo runs up to Gandalf.*
Frodo: There's something down there!
Gandalf: It's Gollum.
Frodo: Gollum!
Gandalf: He's been following us for 3 days.
Frodo: He escaped the dungeons of Barud-dur!
Gandalf: Escaped or set loose? And now the Ring has drawn him here. He will never be rid of his need for it.
Frodo: It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance!
Gandalf: Pity! It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be so quick to deal out death and judgment, even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum may yet have some part to play for good or ill.
Gollum: AAHH.
*Gollum continues slinking.*
Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. all you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, in which case you also were meant to have it and that is an encouraging thought. Huh, it's that way!
Merry: He's remembered!
Gandalf: No! But the air doesn't smell so foul down here. If in doubt, fear not. Always follow your nose.
*They creep downstairs.*
Gandalf: We will risk a little more light. Behold! the great realm of the Dwarf City of Dwerrowdelf!
*They walk through the city.*
Sam: Well, there's an eye-opener, no mistake.
*They continue through the city in awed silence, when Gimli sees something horrifying.*

*Gimli notices a door at the side of the 23rd Hall. He runs through the door and enters the Chamber of Mazarbûl. The room is full of corpses*

Gandalf Gimli!

*in the middle of the Chamber is a large white stone boxish thing. Gimli recognises what it is*

Gimli No! Oh, no! ... No... *he cries*

Gandalf *reading the inscription* "Here lies Balin, son of Fundin. Lord of Moria." He is dead then. It is as I feared.

*he hands Pippin his hat and staff. Gimli lets his helmeted head lean forward upon the edge of the stone as he mourns in Dwarvish*

Legolas *impatiently, to Aragorn* We must move on; we cannot linger.

Gandalf *finding a book and brushing away the dust, he turns to the last written page* "They have taken the bridge and second hall. We barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. Drums, drums in the deep. We cannot get out. They are coming."

*Gandalf pauses as he realises the horrible fate of the Dwarves. Pippin, seeing a skeleton sitting atop a well, twists its wrist. The skeleton falls in, dragging with it a wooden bucket and a long metal chain*

Gandalf Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity!

Boromir: They have a cave troll.

*Fellowship assume defensive positions*

Gandalf: Argggh!

Gimli: Let them come! There is one Dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!

*fighting ensues, Frodo is being cornered by the cave troll*

Frodo: Aragorn! Aragorn!

*Aragorn jumps in front and attacks the cave troll with a spear, but is knocked aside and briefly unconscious. Cave troll strikes Frodo with spear, but is killed by Legolas*

Sam: Frodo?

Aragorn: Oh no...

*Frodo groans*

Sam: He's alive!

Frodo: It's okay, I'm not hurt.

Aragorn: You should be dead. That spear would have skewered a wild boar.

Boromir What is this new devilry?

Gandalf *closing his eyes as if in deep concentration* A Balrog. A demon of the ancient world... This foe is beyond any of you... Run!

Aragorn Gandalf!

Gandalf Lead them, Aragorn; the bridge is near. *Aragorn stares at him* Do as I say! Swords are of no use here! *he pushes Aragorn away*

Aragorn Sam! *he tosses Sam across. He reaches for Gimli*

Gimli Nobody tosses a dwarf! *he jumps and almost falls, but Legolas catches him by the beard and helps him up*

Gimli Not the beard!!

Aragorn Frodo! *he holds Frodo by the back of his shirt as they balance the swaying of the rock. Finally the two pieces come together, and they are all together again. Everyone runs for the last bridge*

Gandalf Over that bridge! Fly!

*he turns to face the Balrog. The others run across the bridge. Gandalf follows them but then turns around in the middle of the bridge*

Gandalf You cannot pass!

Frodo Gandalf!!

Gandalf I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor! The dark fire shall not avail you, flame of Udun!*

*the Balrog cracks its whip*

Gandalf Go back to the Shadow! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!! *he strikes the bridge with his staff, and it crumbles before him. The Balrog falls into the abyss. As Gandalf turns around to join the Fellowship, the Balrog cracks his whip again, and it curls around Gandalf's ankle and drags him to the end of the bridge*

*the Fellowship now stands on the flet as Galadriel and Celeborn approach, veeeery sloooowlllyyyyy*

Celeborn *speaking veeeeeryyyyy sloooowlyyyyy* Eight there are there, yet nine there were set out from Rivendell. Tell me, where is Gandalf? For I much desired to speak with him.

Galadriel *looking dazed and lost* He has fallen into shadow. *she wakes up* The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail to the ruin of all. *Boromir chokes* Yet hope remains while the Company is true. *Sam ducks his head* Do not let your hearts be troubled. *her light falls upon Frodo* Go now and rest, for you are weary with sorrow and much toil. Tonight, you will sleep in peace... *rambles on*

Galadriel (voiceover) Welcome, Frodo of the Shirrre... one who has seen the E-E-Eye! *it occurs to me that she seems to tremble there*

*the Fellowship are on ground level. A haunting song sung by few voices is heard*

Legolas A lament for Gandalf.

Merry What do they say?

Legolas I have not the heart to tell you. For me, the grief is still too near.

Aragorn: Take some rest, these borders are well protected.

Boromir: I will find no rest here. I heard her voice inside my head. She spoke of my father and the fall of Gondor. She said to me, even now there is still hope, but I cannot see it. It is long since we had any hope. My father is a noble man, but his rule is failing. He looks to me to make it right, and I would do it. I would see the glory of Gondor restored.

Have you ever seen it, Aragorn? The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high on the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the ringing of silver trumpets?

Aragorn: I have seen the White City, long ago.

Boromir: One day our paths will lead us there and the tower guard will take up the call: The lords of Gondor have returned!

*Frodo walks into Galadriel's glade*

Galadriel: Will you look into the mirror?

Frodo: What will I see?

Galadriel: Even the wisest cannot tell, for the mirror shows many things. Things that were, things that are, and some things that have not yet come to pass.

*Frodo looks into mirror, lastly sees the Eye of Sauron*

Galadriel: I know what it is you saw, for it is also in my mind. It is what will come to pass if you should fail. The fellowship is breaking, it has already begun. One by one it will take them all. He will try to take the ring. You know of whom I speak. One by one it will destroy them all.

Frodo: If you ask it of me, I will give you the One Ring.

Galadriel: You offer it to me freely. I do not deny that my heart has greatly desired this. But in place of a Dark Lord you would have a Queen! Not dark, but beautiful and terrible as the dawn, treachorous as the sea, stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair!

I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the west, and remain Galadriel.

Frodo: I cannot do this alone.

Galadriel: You are a Ringbearer, Frodo. To bear a Ring of Power is to be alone. This task was appointed to you, and if you do not find a way, no one will

Frodo: I know what I must do. It's just, I'm afraid to do it.

Galadriel: Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.

*we are taken to the Isengard. Lurtz is standing erect, while Saruman paces about him*

Saruman Do you know how the Orcs first came into being? *Lurtz growls* They were once Elves, taken by the dark powers - tortured and mutilated. A ruined, and terrible, form of life. And now perfected... my fighting Uruk-hai... Whom do you serve?

Lurtz *half-gutteral, half-comprehensible* Saruman!

*we are taken to the Caverns of Isengard. Saruman stands on a platform, while a large army of Uruks stand on ground level*

Saruman Hunt them down! Do not stop until they are found. You do not know pain, you do not know fear...! You will taste man-flesh!

*the Uruks cheer*

*Saruman turns to Lurtz*

Saruman One of the Halflings carries something of great value. Bring them to me alive, and unspoilt. Kill the others!

*Lurtz snarls. We see the Uruks storming out of Isengard*

*meanwhile, back in Lórien...*

Galadriel Farwell, Frodo Baggins. I give you the light of Eärendil, our most beloved star. Namarië. (Farewell)

*she kisses Frodo's clean, fluffy hair. We then see the Fellowship in the white boats of Lórien, rowing down the Anduin. Galadriel stands alone on the shore, with her palm reaching out at the Fellowship in farewell*

Galadriel (voiceover) May it be a light for you in dark places, when all other lights go out.

*random shots of Uruks tromping through the woods. Legolas and Aragorn are alarmed, and they look at the banks of the River. Presently, the Fellowship approaches two statues. They are on either bank of the Anduin*

Aragorn Frodo. *Frodo looks up* The Argonath. Long have I desired to look upon the Kings of old... my kin.

*the boats hit the shore and everyone disembarks*

Aragorn: We cross the lake at nighhtfall. Hide the boats and continue on foot. We approach Mordor from the north.

Gimli? Oh yes? Just a simple matter of finding our way through Emyn Muil, an impassible labyrinth of razor sharp rocks? And after that, it gets even better. Festering marshlands as far as the eye can see.

Aragorn: That is our road. I suggest you take some rest and recover your strength, Master Dwarf.

Gimli: Recover my...humph!

Legolas: We should leave now.

Aragorn: No. Orcs patrol the eastern shore, we shall wait for cover of darkness.

Legolas: It's not the eastern shore that worries me. Something draws near, I can feel it.

Gimli: Recover my strength! Pay no attention, young hobbits.

(aww, thanks, m'lord!)

*Sam notices Boromir is gone. He gives a start*

*we see Frodo wandering about, and Boromir approaches, carrying a bundle of dry wood and picking up more branches as he comes closer*

Boromir None of us should wander alone, you least of all. Much depends on you... Frodo? *Frodo looks away* I know why you seek solitude... you suffer, I see it day by day. Are you sure you do not suffer needlessly? There are other ways, Frodo... other paths that we might take.

Frodo I know what you would say, and it would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my heart.

Boromir *coming closer[/b] Wawrning? Against what? *Frodo begins to back off* Yes, we're all afraid, but to let that fear drive us to destroy our hope... Don't you see, it's madness!

Frodo There is no other way!

Boromir *getting excited* I ask only for the strength to defend my people! *he flings the wood onto the ground in anger. Then he begins to plead* If you would but lend me the Ring...

Frodo *backing off* No!

Boromir Why do you leave? I am no thief!

Frodo You are not yourself.

Boromir What chance do you think you've got? They'll find you. They will take the Ring. And you will beg for death before the end! *his voice rises in desperation* You fool! It is not yours save by unhappy chance! *he quickly advances towards Frodo* It could have been mine. It should have been mine! *he grasps at Frodo and throws him to the ground* Give it to me! Give me the Ring!

Frodo No! *he pauses in the struggle long enough to slip the Ring onto his finger. He gets up and kicks Boromir before he runs*

Boromir *yelling frantically* I see your mind! You will take the Ring to Sauron! And you will betray us!... You will go to your death! And the death of us all! Curse you! Curse you, and all the Halflings!

*he slips on the dry leaves and falls. He picks himself up, and he realises what he's done*

Boromir *whimpering* Frodo? Frodo? What have I done... Please, Frodo?

*Frodo runs off, climbs on top of Amon Hen, gets freaked out by the Eye, falls off and the Ring comes off his finger. Aragorn finds him*

Aragorn: Frodo?

Frodo: It has taken Boromir.

Aragorn: Where is the Ring?

*Frodo retreats from him*

Frodo: Stay away!

Aragorn: I swore an oath to protect you.

Frodo: Can you protect me from yourself? Would you destroy it?

*Holds ring out. Aragorn approaches, puts his hand over the ring and closes Frodo's hand around it.

Aragorn: I would have followed you to the end. Into the very fires of Mordor.

Frodo: I know. Look after the others, especially Sam. He will not understand.

*Aragorn sees that Sting is glowing. Steps back, drawing his sword*

Aragorn: Go Frodo, run. Run!

*walks slowly towards a group of 50 Uruk-hai, some of whom begin to charge towards him. He raises his sword in a salute, and the battle begins.*

*Sam is shown, tearing through shrubbery*

Sam Mr. Frodo!

*back to the Uruk army*

Lurtz Find the Halflings! Find the Halflings!

*Aragorn fights... Legolas and Gimli come and help him out*

*Frodo runs down a slope like a deer. He ducks behind a tree and watches as a group of stupid Uruks tromp along past him, searching for him. We next see Merry and Pippin hiding in a hollow under a log*

Merry *beckoning and waving* Frodo!

Pippin Hide here, quick! *waves* Come on!

*Frodo shakes his head, his eyes full of fear*

Pippin *puzzled* What's he doing, Merry? Huh? What's he doing?

*Frodo shakes his head again*

Merry He's leaving...

Pippin NO!! *he leaps from the hollow and stops short*

Merry Pippin! *he joins Pippin, and they both see Uruks coming towards them from the top of the slope*

Merry Run, Frodo. *Frodo hesitates* Go! *Frodo runs for it, as Merry waves at the Uruks* Over here! Hey, you!

Pippin Here! Over here! This way! Hey!

*they begin the run as the Uruks pursue them*

Pippin It's working!

Merry I know it's working; run!

*we see a very cool shot of Legolas killing three Uruks with three different arrows in a matter of seconds. Merry and Pippin run across a bridge. A large group of Uruks comes towards them. One Uruk, who seems to have forgotten Lurtz's orders, begins to swing his axe at them, but Boromir runs in and saves the day. He fights, growing tired, but he fells many enemies. We then see Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. Boromir blows his horn, and the three friends stop fighting for a second*

Legolas The horn of Gondor!

Aragorn Boromir.

*the three run towards the horn's call*

(hurrah! You get the Departure of Boromir! )

Thank you, sweetness. I was beginning to wonder if some orcs had carried you off.

*Lurtz is about to finish Boromir when Aragorn knocks him back. They fight and he is struck down by Aragorn. Aragorn finds Boromir on the ground with three arrows still in him.*

Aragorn: Boromir

Boromir: They took the little ones!

Aragorn: Stay still.

Boromir: Where's Frodo?

Aragorn: I let Frodo go.

Boromor: Then you did what I could not. I tried to take the Ring from him.

Aragorn: The Ring is beyond our reach now.

Boromir: Forgive me, I did not see. I have failed you all.

Aragorn: No, Boromir. You fought bravely. You have kept your honor.

*Aragorn tries to remove one of the arrows*

Boromir: Leave it! It is over. The world of men will fall and all will come to darkness, and my city to ruin.

Aragorn: I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you, I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail.

Boromir: Our people. I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king.

*Bormir dies*

Aragorn: Be at peace, son of Gondor.

(I had to eat dinner... Curse meals! I hate eating!}

*Frodo stands near the boats on the shores of the Anduin. Sam thrashes his way through the brush*

Sam Mr. Frodo!

*a lone tear finds its way down Frodo's oh-so-pale cheek. His palm is open, and the Ring lies there, amid the tangles of its chain*

Frodo (voiceover, flashback) I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf (voiceover) So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. *we see Gandalf* All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

*Frodo clenches the Ring in his hand and stuffs it into his vest pocket. He pushes one of the boats into the waters and climbs in*

Sam *finally coming to the shore* Frodo, no! Frodo! Mr. Frodo! *he wades into the water*

Frodo *not turning around* No, Sam... Go back. I'm going to Mordor alone.

Sam *walking right into the River* Of course you are, and I'm comin' with you!

Frodo *alarmed* You can't swim... Sam! *he turns around just in time to see the water covering Sam's curly head* SAM! (this part almost made me cry!)

*Sam is pulled underwater by his... weight. He reaches for the surface but is pulled in by the current. He looks peaceful but anguished at the same time. Finally, he is still. But then Frodo's hand breaks the surface, and he finds Sam's outstretched hand. After a brief moment, Sam's hand tightens around Frodo's wrist, and Frodo pulls Sam out and helps him into the boat*

Sam *panting* I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise - "Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee." And I don't mean to. *tears stream down his face* I don't mean to.

Frodo *his eyes water* Oh, Sam! *they embrace, and then they sit back* Come on, then.

*they paddle across the River*

What an excellent Shieldmaiden you are!

Legolas: Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore. You mean not to follow them.

Aragorn: Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands.

Gimli: Then it has all been in vain. The Fellowship has failed.

Aragorn: Not if we hold true to each other. We shall not abandon Pippin and Merry to torment and death. Not while we still have strength left. Leave all that can be spared behinf, we travel light. Let's hunt some orc.

Gimli: Yes!!!!!

*The Three Hunters go running through the forest*

I absolutely love this image - it matched so closely with the one in my head when reading the book, the Three Hunters just bounding through the forest

*Sam and Frodo look over the Emyn Muil*

Frodo: Mordor. I hope the others find a safer road.

Sam: Strider I'll look after 'em.

Frodo: I don't suppose that we shall ever see them again.

Sam: We may yet, Mr. Frodo. We may.

Frodo: Sam, I'm glad you're with me.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not even going to try. Besides, isn't a script a document that contains the lines of the actors and some detail about their actions? I think waded far enough into Lake Dorkus by reproducing the script from memory without adding in the crew.

Yes, I'm afraid you are. I'm up to my neck, but still standing on the bottom - you're out there swimming laps and doing summersaults in the water.

But you know what, Lady? Take heart, because even the smallest dork can make a difference.

Actually I'm kidding. When I think of the activities that you're interested in doing this summer, inventing a language, writing a screenplay, and all of your reading, I'm so impressed with your enthusiasm and creativity. And it's funny, but most of the stuff that gets you labeled a dork in high school (e.g. things I just mentioned) takes you much further in the real world. The kids that had no creativity and bought the crap that they were told to buy, the music they were told to listen to, etc., these are the ones who often have bleak existences for the rest of their lives (though some of them will wake up in college or later). You are full of potential and I applaud all of the ways that you're developing your mind and expressing yourself.

I know exactly how you feel (well, maybe not exactly, but I think my spirit was similiar to yours in HS, regarding conforoming).

OK, when I'm not referring to you as Lady or Shieldmaiden, I'll call you a nerd. It's funny, because my friend had the same problem with me calling her a geek - and she preferred nerd. It's always semantics with you people!

Then you'll understand, maybe, why I'm often antisocial, as I've said before here (several times). It's not an inborn thing, it's something that developed.

M'Lord, "nerd" and "geek" are two very different terms! "Nerd" indicates someone who is often antisocial, but who isolates him-/herself from others for the purposes of doing "nerdy" things... like writing screenplays, programming 'puters, coming to Internet forums (), reading, studying... blah-bleh-blah. "Geek" refers to someone who is awkward in social situations, and who is a recluse because he/she does not feel comfortable around people who are not like him-/herself.

In other words... it's bad to be a geek. It's good to be a nerd. Life is good (most of the time... some of the time...).

But thanks!

Wads? I have never heard of that before, but I think I've figured it out... heh, that article...

Yes, your generation knows only the brief version of these words, but in the mid-80s it was common for kids to call each other things like "dorkwad", "gaywad", "geekwad", and so forth. Though there were no "nerdwads". I wonder what Tolkien the linguist would have to say about this?

Yes, my friend explained the difference between geeks and nerds to me the same as you did.

If you liked that article you should visit the main site, www.theonion.com. It's updated every Wednesday and is full of well-written and very funny satire of many things: politics, pop culture, religion, to name a few.

Well, I'm glad we nerds all know the difference!

Yep... I've been there on several occasions. But I spend most of my Internet time here (), so I generally go to the Onion only when someone recommends a particular article.

LN, are you saying that liking pop culture and a lack of creativity are synonymous and will lead to a bleak existence? What do you define as a bleak existence?

Sorry if I'm being nitpicky, but something about that statement bothered me. It came across to me as a put down to try to uplift those on the opposite end of the spectrum.
