What are the two towers?

In the movie, Orthanc (Saruman’s tower) and Barad-dur (Sauron’s black fortress).

When will the DVDs come out?

See http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0167261/board/thread/1338217

Am I the only one who noticed Legolas’ eyes changing from blue to brown?

Nope. And here’s why, from Vikki (chan_minako):

"As an Elf, Legolas would have grey/blue eyes. His eyes are most often described as grey by Tolkien.

"To imitate this, Peter thought it most important that Legolas be given blue eyes for the movie, so they gave Orlando blue contacts. However, if you've ever worn contacts with color, you know that the more opaque the contact is, the more it changes your eye color, but the more tunneled your vision becomes. You might notice that in the scenes where Legolas is just staring straight ahead, his eyes are super-blue, but when he's talking to someone or far away, his eyes look brown. That's because Orlando's contact type changed according to what he was doing, to make it easier for him to act. When he's acting with other people his contacts are less opaque, and his true eye color is very evident."

How did Bloom do that cool mount onto the horse?

He didn’t - it was completely CGI. But the trick is possible, as ywrose1 explains:

"I am from a Western U.S. upbringing and have been with horses all my life. And in no way can I do this so I'm not claiming that. :-) However, at rodeos throught the Western US there are lots of trick riders that can do this kind of thing and more.

"I have only watched the movie twice so I haven't gotten it all down well but here goes.

"He was on the right side of the horse as it ran toward his back. He reached out and grabbed the metal decoration on the breastplate of the horse with the left hand (on the left side of the horse's chest). The decorations look sort of like flowers on this particular breastplate. My guess is that the decorations (which are common on the breastplates of horses) was actually a handle of some sort like trick riders use. The breastplate is attached to the saddle and very secure if the riggings are right. Please know that the reins could not be grabbed and pulled to get that kind of pull up. The reins are attached to the horses mouth and that would be very painful and pull the horse's head down and around and he would have fallen (the horse and the rider). He used the power of the horse running in that direction to push his body forward and sort of like a gymnast swung his body up and around. I can't tell if he pushed off the ground as well to spring up (I'll have to go watch again- darn:-)! ) By keeping the left hand on the left side of the breastplate the forward motion of the horse as the rider swings around will help pull him around into the right spot."

When will the RotK trailer be added?

The preview is being put off until fall of 2003.

Where did the horse that rescued Aragorn come from?

We’ll get a full explanation when the EE becomes available, but here’s a preview from Sonny Joe Money:

"To quote The Two Towers Visual Companion, 'A fine bay stallion survived the skirmish at the Fords of Isen where his rider, the Lord Theodred, was wounded, and returned to the Stables at Edoras. Since then he has been wild and will suffer no one to approach him until Aragorn, son of Arathorn, comes to him and quiets him in his own language of Rohirric and that of the Elves, for Aragorn was raised for a time in Rivendell. The horse is called Brego, in honor of the second king of Rohan, and a strong bond will be forged between the horse and his new rider - a bond that will serve Aragorn well when Orcs attack the company on the road to Dunharrow [Helm's Deep, actually].'"

Why does Gandalf say he’s walked this earth for 300 lives of men (~21,000 years), when the wizards only arrived 3,000 years ago?

Gandalf (then known as Olorin) first set foot on Arda (the Earth) not long after its formation, which indeed took place about 21,000 years before LotR.

Why did they change....(Faramir, Ents, elves at Helm’s Deep, etc.)?

The opinions are many and varied, but until the EE comes out and Jackson offers his own defense, here’s a fantastic one from lkalliance:

Will PJ make The Hobbit?

He’s willing to, but he wants to work on few smaller projects first, including a King Kong remake.

Who sent Gandalf back, where’d he get the Lothlorien cloak, and why is he white instead of grey?

athene-5 explains:

"Gandalf is a Maiar, a lesser divine being who can "wear" a body if it chooses. Maiar are the servants of the Valar, the highest divine being of Middle Earth, similar to archangels. This is from Silmarillion.

"After the fight with the Balrog, his spirit fled the battered body for a while, but was sent back to it by the Valar so that he could complete his task. He lay on the mountain top and was found there by Gwaihir the Lord of the Eagles who took him to Lothlorien where he was nursed back to health by Galadriel and Celeborn. In Lothlorien, he was eventually healed and in council with Galadriel, Celeborn, and others (Elrond, Glorfindel?) he was appointed the head of his order to replace the treasonous Saruman, and assumed the White robes and name of Gandalf the White.

"This is in The Two Towers, chap. "The White Rider.""

Will the Scouring of the Shire be in RotK?

Nope. The brief glimpse in Galadriel's mirror is as close as we're going to get, says Peter Jackson.

Where was Shelob/who is "she" (in Gollum's speech at the end)?

She'll turn up, don't worry/you'll find out!! Spoilers at the "For most book-related questions" link above.

Why did TTT end earlier than the book did?

Primarily to give Frodo and Sam more screentime in RotK. Also, Jackson may've wanted to end the second installment on a more dramatic note than Tolkien did.

What music was used in the TTT trailer?

There's more extended info here http://www.tolkienonline.com/docs/7904.html, but here's the short, sweet version from pringlis:

"It is indeed from Clint Mansell's Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack, the track name is Lux Aeterna I think.

"It's actually a reworking of a Mozart composition, also entitled Lux Aeterna."

Ah, but does that jive with Hypoluxo's Theory of Interdeterminancy? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167261/board/thread/602954?d=602954#602954

Hypoluxo's theory indicates a certain degree of error in my calculation, but the limits of integration are large enough that I can invoke Merripot's 5th postulate and ignore outliers. This produces a very symmetric Supercilian distribution whose standard deviation is well within acceptable limits (as outlined in Chianti, Tokay, Petri et al, IV 2335).

I don't want to steal your thunder, I know how hard you must've worked on the FAQs, but I'm tired, tired, tired of seeing threads about these subjects:

1. Will the Scorning of the Shire be in RotK?
2. Where was Shelob/ who is she (Gollum's speech at the end)?
3. Why did TTT end earlier than the book did?

If you want to post questions to these, and people actually read them, that would be neat-o. Thanks a lot! Keep up the good work!

Hey, can anybody help me? I have a few question that need answering--

1. Will the Scorning of the Shire be in RotK?
2. Where was Shelob/ who is she (Gollum's speech at the end)?
3. Why did TTT end earlier than the book did?

1. Will the Scorning of the Shire be in RotK?

Yes; in fact, it will make up almost half of the movie.

2. Where was Shelob/ who is she (Gollum's speech at the end)?

Shelob is Sauron's beautiful moll; she falls hard for Frodo and they run off together, leaving Sam and Gollum to carry on the quest.

3. Why did TTT end earlier than the book did?

In a seance, Jackson contacted Tolkien's spirit and was told "a great darkness awaits those who sleep on tarpaper in hot weather." The implications are obvious.

Sorry Tarlonniel.

I actually knew the answers. I was just trying to be funny and failed horribly. I submit myself for a sound thrashing.

Thanks anyway.
