UPDATED Mon Aug 4 02:54:51 |
The DVD release dates will be: August 26th for the Theatrical cut, available on VHS and DVD
: November 18th for the Extended Edition, again available on both DVD and VHS.
That's a mere 22 days until the Theatrical and 107 days until the EE!!!
For information on these DVDs go to http://www.lightsoutentertainment.com/dvd/news.php?id=934

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/381/381227p1.html (This I like - they've gone through the trailers and picked up on scenes that could be in the EE. OK, it's all conjecture, but it's exciting nonetheless )
http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1040672176 (Similar to the last, some guessing of possible EE scenes)
http://www.dailydigest.net/tttdeletedscenes.html (Yet another possible scenes one)

http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&g=info&k=two+towers&s=1 (There's a lot of different information here, some of it old and therefore contradictory, but the best bit here is that it says that the EE is going to be 222 minutes long!!! )
http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1056124245 (Some general information, with thanks to Mellonquendi!)
But if you can't wait - you can pre-order it now at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005JKZV/ref=pd_ts_d_1/002-2389680-3101667?v=glance&s=dvd OK admittedly, it doesn't arrive any earlier, but, you know, it's nice to have it on order!
Once again, if anyone else has any really good links that people should see, let me know!
Also, if we can try to keep this up within the first couple of pages, that would be great - bump away!

Is anyone out there actually going to get the theatrical edition now that you all know that there is an extended edition? Most people only got the FOTR theatrical edition because they didnt know about the special edition.(i was one of the people who waited)
|
|
|
I am, because I simply can't wait until November to see TTT again!

Me, too! I want them both. I'll be getting one as a birthday gift and one for Christmas- how's that for a lucky girl?
"I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew..."
|
|
|
I have both... I knew about the EE and was determined to wait despite my brother's pleas that I buy the TR....and I succeeded. But a while after buying the EE I purchased the TR off a PV rack at a Hollywood Video so I could see the original version again...

I dont understand why people seem to think that it's pointless to get the theatrical edition. It's only like 25 bucks, you can't spare that to get it like at least three monthes earlier than the extended edition? What's the point of waiting? Just because you want to save 25 bucks? Not only do you get to have the original version of the movie as well, but for the extra special features! I could think of a hundred reasons why you should get both. Even if you know that there's an extended edition coming out.
I dont understand.
Lord of the Rings rocks!!!!
|
|
|
25 bucks for the original version!!! Where do you shop. Try Wal-Mart the DAY IT COMES OUT. You will get it for like 15 bucks.
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing."
|
|
|
I'm guessing you're from America. I'm from Canada, and 25 bucks Canadian would be about 15 bucks American.
Lord of the Rings rocks!!!!
|
|
|
Already have it. no special features but a real transfer with Dolby Digital5.1EX

So should I start leaving actual posts again? Return of the TTT Quote-a-thon?
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
I quite enjoyed the quote-a-thon. Could always start that as a separate thread and keep bumping this one.
First thing to do when being stalked by an angry mob with raspberries is to release a tiger
|
|
|
I was referring to the request that we delete our bumps when this thread was started. Up the thread they now said to stop deleting. The quote-a-thon was just my glorified bumping system for fun.

"There goes a lord who tamed a wild shieldmaiden of the North!"
I have no idea why but I love that quote more than any other in the whole trilogy.

Alrighty. Who's the little weasel who is deleting their posts?
Its REALLY annoying. I'm asking that you'll stop it.
"There goes a lord who tamed a wild shieldmaiden of the North!"
|
|
|
Weasel?
I'm deleting them because I was asked to when Tar restarted this thread. I did the quotes to give people something to read but there was a whole separate post requesting deleting the bumps. I asked up thread if the request was changed and no one really responded to that question.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
However, with regards both to the attempts to keep down the number of non-essential posts and the fact that the thread is getting so big it's taking a long time to load, can I please request that when you bump it you delete your post afterwards. And possibly delete all your existing ones. I know you've all been putting a good effort into all those coloured quotations, but I'm afraid it's for the best that they go.
I don't think I'm the only weasel deleting posts though...
I did TTT quotes in anticipation for the TTT DVD...but Tar asked me to delete so I deleted...

Well, it was getting up to about 130 replies, and it was taking a while to load up. But then again, this thread is small at the moment so I don't think we need to get too het up about numbers of posts. Sorry if I came across as rude, because I really do appreciate your dedicated bumping, Legolas.
(And for the record I have deleted a few posts, Lady!)

Not rude at all, Tar. I just wanted to do what was needed for the thread.
First one I deleted anything that wasn't a response to something, then I started quotes...so for this one I've been back to that

Where now are the Dunedain, Elessar, Elessar?
Why do they kinsfolk wander afar?
Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth,
And the Grey Company ride from the North.
But dark is the path appointed for thee,
The Dead watch the road that leads to the Sea.
I fear not the shadows of Men

Legolas Greenleaf long under tree
In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea!
If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore,
They heart shall then rest in the forest no more!

Gandalf fell silent and shut his eyes.
Then she sent me no message? said Gimli and bent his head.
Dark are her words, said Legolas, and little do they mean to those that receive them.
That is no comfort said Gimli.

Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows
The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes.
What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight?
Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?
'I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey,
Into the shadows of the North, I saw him then no more.
The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor,
O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar,
But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones,
The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans.
What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve?
Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.
Ask not of me where he doth dwell so many bones there lie,
On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky,
So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea.
Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!
O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward roads runs south,
But you came not with the wailing gulls from the grey seas mouth.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
From the Gate of the Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls,
And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls.
What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today?
What news of Boromir the bold? For he is long away.
Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought,
His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought.
His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest,
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.
O Boromr! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze,
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.

Earendil was a mariner......
The Audrey Two is not a healthy girl!
Strictly between us, neither is the Audrey One!
|
|
|
Just for you then, Tar!
Eärendil was a mariner
That tarried in Arvernien;
He built a boat of timber felled
In Nimbrethil to journey in;
Her sails he wove of silver fair,
Of silver were her lanterns made
Her prow was fashioned like a swan,
And light upon her banners laid.
To be continued...
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
In panoply of ancient kings,
In chainéd rings he armoured him;
His shining shield was scored with runes
To ward all wounds and harm from him;
His bow was made of dragon-horn,
His arrows shorn of ebony,
Of silver was his habergeon;
His scabbard of chalcedony;
His sword of steel was valiant,
Of adamant his helmet tall,
An eagle-plume upon his crest,
Upon his breast an emerald.
To be continued...
I fear not the shadows of Men

Beneath the Moon and under star
He wandered far from northern strands,
Bewildered on enchanted ways
Beyond the days of mortal lands.
From gnashing of the Narrow Ice
Where shadow lies on frozen hills,
From nether heats and burning waste
He turned in haste, and roving still
On starless waters far astray
At last he came to Night of Naught,
And passed, and never sight he saw
Of shining shore nor light he sought.
The winds of wrath came driving him,
And blindly in the foam he fled
From west to east and errandless,
Unheralded he homeward sped.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
There flying Elwing came to him,
And flame was in the darkness lit;
More bright than light of diamond
The fire upon her carcanet.
The Silmaril she bound on him
And crowned him with the living light
And dauntless then with burning brow
He turned his prow, and in the night
From Otherworld beyond the Sea
There strong and free a storm arose,
A wind of power in Tarmenel;
By paths that seldom mortal goes
His boat it bore with biting breath
As might of death across the grey
As long-forsaken seas distressed;
From east to west he passed away.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
Through Evernight he back was borne
On black and roaring waves that ran
O'er leagues unlit and foundered shores
That drownded before the Days began,
Until he heard on strands of pearl
When ends the world the music long,
Where ever-foaming billows roll
The yellow gold and jewels wan.
He saw the Mountain silent rise
Where twilight lies upon the knees
Of Valinor and Eldamar
Beheld afar beyond the seas.
A wanderer escaped from night
To haven white he came at last,
To Elvenhome the green and fair
Where keen the air, where pale as glass
Beneath the Hill and Ilmarin
A-glimmer in a valley sheer
The lamplit towers of Tirion
Are mirrored on the Shadowmere.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
He tarried there from errantry
And melodies they taught to him,
And sages old him marvels told,
And harps of gold they brought to him,
They clothed him then in elven-white,
And seven lights before him sent,
As through the Calacirian
To hidden land forlorn he went,
He came unto the timeless halls
Where shining fall the countless years,
And endless reigns the Elder King
In Ilmarin on Mountain sheer,
And words unheard were spoken then
Of folk of Men and Elven-kin,
Beyond the world were visions showed
Forbid to those that dwell therein.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
A ship then new they built for him
Of mithril and of elven-glass
With shining prow; no shaven oar
Nor sail she bore on silver mast;
The Silmaril as lantern light
And banner bright with living flame
To gleam thereon by Elbereth
Herself was set, who thither came
And wings immortal made for him,
And laid on him undying doom,
To sail the shoreless skies and come
Behind the Sun and light of Moon.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
From Evereven's lofty hills
Where softly silver fountains fall
His wings him bore, a wandering light,
Beyond the mighty Mountain Wall,
From World's End then he turned away,
And yearned again to find afar
His home through shadows journeying,
And burning as an island star
On high above the mists he came,
A distant flame before the Sun,
A wonder ere the waking dawn
Where grey the Norland waters run.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
And over Middle-earth he passed
And heard at last the weeping sore
Of women and of elven-maids
In Elder Days, in years of yore.
But on him mighty doom was laid
Till Moon should fade, an orbéd star
To pass, and tarry never more
On Hither Shores where mortals are;
For ever still a herald on
An errand that should never rest
To bear his shining lamp afar,
To Flammifer of Westernesse.
The End

We come, we come with roll of drum, ta-runda runda runda rom!
We come, we come with horn and drum, ta-runa runa runa rom!
To Isengard! Though Isengard be ringed and barred with doors of stone,
Though Isengard be strong and hard, as cold as stone and bare as bone,
We go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door.
For bole and bough are burning now, the furnace roars we got to war!
To land of gloom with tramp of doom, with roll of drum, we come, we come.
To Isengard with doom we come!
With doom we come, with doom we come!

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountains, like a wind in the meadow,
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow,
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

The cold hard lands
They bites our hands,
They gnaws our feet,
The rocks and stones
Are like old bones
All bare of meat.
But stream and pool
Is wet and cool
So nice for feet!
And now we wish........
Alive without breath
As cold as death
Never thirsting, ever drinking
Clad in mail, never clinking.
Drowns on dry land
Thinks an island
Is a mountain,
Thinks a fountain
Is a puff of air
So sleek, so fair!
What a joy to meet!
We only wish
To catch a fish,
So juicy-sweet!

In Dwimordene, in Lorien
Seldom have walked the feet of Men,
Few mortal eyes have seen the light,
That lies there ever, long and bright.
Galadriel! Galadriel!
Clear is the water of your well,
White is the star in your white hand
Unmarrred, unstained is leaf and land,
In Dwimordene, in Lorien
More fair than thoughts of Mortal Men.

Over the land there lies a long shadow,
Westward reaching wings of darkness.
The Tower trembles, to the tombs of kings,
Doom approaches. The Dead awaken,
For the hour is come for the oathbreakers,
At the Stone of Erech they shall stand again
And hear there a horn in the hills ringing,
Whose shall be the horn be? Who shall call them
From the grey twilight, the forgotten?
The heir of him to whom the oath they swore.
From the North shall he come, need shall drive him,
He shall pass the Door to the Paths of the Dead.

In the green fields of Lebennin!

The leaves were long, the grass was green,
The hemlock-umbels tall and fair,
And in the glade a light was seen
Of stars in shadow shimmering.
Tinuviel was dancing there
To music of a pipe unseen,
And light of stars was in her hair,
And in her raiment glimmering.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
There Beren came from mountains cold,
And lost he wandered under leaves,
And where the Elven-river rolled
He walked alone and sorrowing.
He peered between the hemlock-leaves
And saw in wonder flowers of gold
Upon her mantle and her sleeves,
And her hair like shadow following.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
Enchantment healed his weary feet
That over hills were doomed to roam;
And forth he hastened, strong and fleet,
And grasped at moonbeams glistening.
Through woven woods in Elvenhome
She lightly fled on dancing feet,
And left him lonely still to roam
In the silent forest listening.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
He heard there oft the flying sound
Of feet as light as linden-leaves,
Or music welling underground,
In hidden hollows quavering.
Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves,
And one by one with sighing sound
Whispering fell the beechen leaves
In the wintry woodland wavering.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
He sought her ever, wandering far
Where leaves of years were thickly strewn,
By light of moon and ray of star
In frosty heavens shivering.
Her mantle glinted in the moon,
As on a hill-top high and far
She danced, and at her feet was strewn
A mist of silver quivering.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
When winter passed, she came again,
And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water-bubbling.
He saw the elven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
Again she fled, but swift he came,
Tinuviel! Tinuviel!
He called her by her elvish name;
And there she halted listening.
One moment stood she, and a spell,
His voice laid on her: Beren came,
And doom fell on Tinuviel
That in his arms lay glistening.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
Glistening, eh? What had she been doing?!

|
|
|
As Beren looked into her eyes
Within the shadows of her hair,
The trembling starlight of the skies
He saw there mirrored shimmering.
Tinuviel the elven-fair
Immortal maiden elven-wise,
About him cast her shadowy hair
And arms like silver glimmering.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
Long was the way that fate them bore
O'er stony mountains cold and grey
Through halls of iron and darkling door
And woods of nightshade morrowless.
The Sundering Seas between them lay,
And yet at last they met once more,
And log ago they passed away
In the forest singing sorrowless.
That is a song in the mode that is called ann-thennath among the Elves, but is hard to render in our Common Speech, and this is but a rough echo of it.
I fear not the shadows of Men

The world was young, the mountains green,
No stain yet on the moon was seen,
No words were laid on stream or stone,
When Durin woke and walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells,
He drank from yet untasted wells;
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere,
And saw a crown of stars appear,
As gems apon a silver thread,
Above the shadow of his head.
The world was fair, the mountains tall,
In Elder Days before the fall
Of mighty kings in Nargothron,
And Gondolinn, who now beyond
The Western Seas have passed away:
The world was fair in Durin's Day.
A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillard halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power on the door.
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimed by by cloud or shade of night
There shone forever fair and bright.
There hammer on the anvil smote,
There chisel clove, and graver wrote;
There forged was blade, and bound was hilt;
The delver mined, the mason built.
There beryl, pearl, and opal pale,
And metal wrought like fishes' mail,
Buckler and corslet, axe and sword,
And shining spears were laid in hoard.
Unwearied then were Durin's folk;
Beneath the mountains music woke:
The harpers harp, the minstrels sang,
And at the gates the trumpets rang.
The world is gray, the mountains old,
The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Kazad-Dum.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.
"In a race between a rock and a pig, don't varnish your clams."

I can't wait!!! I wonder what the EE is like?

I am pretty sure that it suppposed to have some pretty great stuff in there. I heard that it was going to have a good deal of never b4 seen footage, commentaries, etc. Pretty excited. I think it has an atlas of middle-earth as well. It should be pretty nice.

There is an inn, a merry-old inn
Beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the man in the moon himself came down
One night to drink his fill.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
The ostler has a tipsy cat
That plays a five-stringed fiddle;
And up and down he runs his bow,
Now squeaking high, now purring low,
Now sawing in the middle
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
The landlord keeps his little dog
That is mighty fond of jokes;
When there's good cheer among the guests,
He cocks an ear at all the jests
And laughs until he chokes.
I fear not the shadows of Men
|
|
|
They also keep an horned cow
As proud as any queen;
But music turns her head like ale,
And makes her wave her tufted tail,
And dance upon the green.
I fear not the shadows of Men

And O! the rows of silver dishes
And the store of silver spoons!
For Sunday there's a special pair,
And these they polish up with care
On Saturday afternoons.
I fear not the shadows of Men

The Man in the Moon was drinking deep,
And the cat began to wail;
A dish and a spoon on the table danced,
The cow in the garden madly pranced,
And the little dog chased his tail.
I fear not the shadows of Men

The Man in the Moon took another mug,
And then rolled beneath his chair;
And there he dozed and dreamed of ale,
Till in the sky the stars were pale,
And dawn was in the air.
I fear not the shadows of Men

Blah
The Audrey Two is not a healthy girl!
Strictly between us, neither is the Audrey One!

Sorry Tar! I've fallen down on the job!
Back to it then!
I fear not the shadows of Men

Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat:
'The white horses of the Moon,
They neigh and champ their silver bits;
But their master's been and drowned his wits,
And the Sun'll be rising soon!'
I fear not the shadows of Men

So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
A jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
'It's after three!' he said.
I fear not the shadows of Men

They rolled the Man slowly up the hill,
And bundled him into the Moon,
While horses galloped up in rear,
And the cow came capering like a deer,
And a dish ran up with the spoon.
